Zoran Zaev – President of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia

Zoran Zaev was born on October 8, 1974 in Strumica.

Graduated on the Faculty of Economics at the Skopje University “St. Cyril and Methodius” in 1997 and continued the postgraduate studies of Monetary Economics and Finance, at the same University.

After winning the local elections in 2013 in the City of Strumica, he began his third consecutive term as Mayor of this city, executing this function until December 2016.

Winner of the Best Practice Аward by the Council of Europe for the first Public-Private Partnership in the country, implemented in the construction of the object “Global” in Strumica. Under his leadership, Strumica won the highest national award in the field of environment (2007 – 2008).

His professional career began as a “Trgoprodukt” – Strumica employee (1997 – 2003), holding the function of a Director in the company from 2001. He was member of the Board of “Peon” Savings-Bank (1998 – 2003) and the Board of “Elenitsa” Construction Materials Industry (2001-2003). In the period 2000 to 2003, Zaev served as President of the Board of PECA “Komunalec” – Strumica.

Member of Parliament in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia in the period 2003-2006.

Zoran Zaev was elected leader of SDSM in 2013. He had the function of Vice President of SDSM Central Board from 2006 to 2008. At the VIIIth Congress of SDSM in 2008 Zaev was elected as Acting President of the Party, holding that function until the IXth Congress, when he was elected Vice President of the Party’s Central Committee.

On May 31, 2017, Zoran Zaev was elected Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia.

Married to Zorica Zaeva with whom he has two children, Aleksandra and Dusko.
