Managing Director of Niel McLean Associates

Niel McLean is Managing Director of Niel McLean Associates, where he has provided consultancy to the British Council on closing the digital skills gap in the Western Balkans and developing the digital competency of teachers in the region.  He is also the senior manager at BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, where he manages the Network of Excellence in Computer Science, a government funded program training teachers for the new computing curriculum.  As a senior manager at the government’s  curriculum authority he developed the first National Curriculum and qualifications for IT and Computing in the early 1990s.

As executive director at the government agency Becta, Niel created support services for schools and teachers, provided evidence to the treasury influencing over a billion Euros of spend on ICT in schools. Niel was business development director for TES’ digital business, led the Futurelab Research Center at NFER and the e-skills UK education team. He is a member of the Educational Technology Action Group, a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and was recently presented with a lifetime achievement award by the national educational technology association.
