Second Balkathon of the Western Balkan Economies

The Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) has officially launched a regional internet competition event this year as well - Balkathon. This year’s Balkathon is a new opportunity to promote smart digital solutions and networking at the regional level.

The competition brings together innovative young people, start-ups, digital innovation centres, science parks, universities, small and medium enterprises, and many other Western Balkans (WB6) participants to work together to design innovative ideas and solutions that can be implemented across the region.

The suggested topics for Balkathon are smart cities, green cities, e-health and e-entrepreneurship. For each thematic item, the winners will be awarded a prize of 10,000 euros. Also, two special prizes of 7,000 euros are provided.

The registration process started on 5 May 2021 and is open until 19 May 2021 at 3:00 pm.

The evaluation process of registered participants will follow three phases: Phase 1 - selecting the 10 best teams for each topic. Phase 2 - After working with mentors, three teams for each shortlisted topic will be candidates for the award during the final competition stage. (Evaluation will be conducted with the support of experts from the WB and RCC Innovation Centres). Phase 3 - WB6 representatives will conduct the evaluation.

The award ceremony will be broadcast live on 28 May 2021.
